"Power Output Tubes - From Scratch"
by Richard (Dick) Whipple
As the author of the book “Single Ended Triode Amplifiers – From Scratch,” I tackled one of the tube-based audio output types in detail. Considering that readers might be interested in other types, I decided to author a book and provide a more comprehensive treatment of the audio power output configurations. In the spirit of my "From Scratch" books, I start with the basics, build the theory from these, and end with breadboard tests that apply the theory. As for starting with the basics, what could be more basic than the electron itself, which is where we start in Chapter 1. From there, we explore power output tubes and the circuit configurations that use them. Configurations include single-ended and push-pull, as well as Class A, Class B, and Class AB types. For each, we show an application that demonstrates the elements of the theory, and, where appropriate, we use simulations and breadboarded circuits to confirm the theory further.
